Ramaker Wins Leading Edge Award for Tsunami Surge
SAN ANTONIO, TX — Tsunami Surge at Six Flags Great America, the world’s tallest water coaster, is a winner. The World Waterpark Association (WWA) granted Ramaker, WhiteWater, and the park a Leading Edge Award for their efforts to bring the innovative attraction to life. The award was announced at the WWA’s 41st Annual Symposium & Trade Show on October 20, 2021.
A record-breaking waterpark feature, Tsunami Surge towers over the rest of Six Flags Great America’s water slides, standing over eight stories tall (86 feet). The attraction propels riders at a top speed of 28 miles per hour and sends them through five hairpin turns and five exhilarating drops. Tsunami Surge is a WhiteWater Master Blaster™ water slide, a model that leads the industry in energy efficiency and longevity. Ramaker provided architectural and engineering services for the slide’s installation at Six Flags Great America. It opened to the public in May of 2021.
“Thrilling guests with an innovative water coaster like Tsunami Surge requires significant architectural and engineering efforts. More than 30 pipes run to and from the attraction’s dedicated equipment building, where eight pumps with 600 horsepower generate a flow rate of over 10,000 gallons per minute. This technology may be stored out of sight, but it powers unforgettable guest experiences,” said Daryl Matzke, Ramaker’s Aquatics Market Leader.
The WWA presents Leading Edge Awards to service providers and suppliers who have introduced new concepts, products, or services that benefit park members, guests, or the waterpark industry at large and to parks that develop new themes, services, or operational concepts.
This is not the first time the WWA has recognized Ramaker. The firm also received a Leading Edge Award alongside WhiteWater in 2018 for its contributions to Epic Waters Indoor Waterpark in Grand Prairie, Texas.
Ramaker’s extensive aquatic engineering and design portfolio has established the firm as a trusted partner of waterparks across the nation. Ramaker recently announced more waterpark projects for 2022, including the Western Hemisphere’s first SlideWheel, which will be installed at Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Park in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.
