In August 2007, the DHS published new rules regarding the structural evaulation of waterslides in the state. The new rule became effective February 2, 2008, and states that "Every five years all waterslides shall be evaluated by an engineer for the structural stability and integrity of the slide and platform. A copy of a report signed by the engineer shall be kept on site as pursuant to s. DHS 172.32."
This policy applies to all public waterslides in Wisconsin as defined in DHS 172 –Safety, Maintenance and Operation of Public Pools and Water Attractions.
That all-important date of five years is just around the corner – February 1, 2013! We urge everyone to make sure their slides are evaluated and have all their reporting records in order when their local Sanitarian performs an annual review.
